Deforestation
What is deforestation?

Deforestation means the increased disappearing of tropical forests (Africa, Amazonia, South America and South-East Asia ). It is acknowledged as being one of the most critical environmental issues facing the world today.

The importance of tropical forests

At the environmental level
, the forest plays a fundamental role in preserving biodiversity, in the climate regulation and the renewal of oxygen supply in the atmosphere. Forest minimizes also the dangers of flooding and drought.

At the socio-economical level , let's not forget that the natural forests constitute living places for 500 million people. Moreover, forest supplies a broad range of daily use products and contributes significantly to medical research.

Causes for deforestation

Harmful agricultural methods and the forest massive exploitation are responsible for the disappearing of natural forests, a phenomenon increased by the lure of gain in general and by the population growth which multiplies the need for wood.

In front of this deforestation, the final consumers, who are insufficiently informed by the distributors and the authorities, encourage unknowingly the abusive forest exploitation.
